Lightning Protection in Raleigh–Durham & the Triangle, North Carolina — Homes Under Tall Pines & New Custom Homes

North Carolina’s #1 Lightning Protection Contractor

Expert Lightning Protection ServiceSince 1950

The Triangle is one of the fastest-growing metros in the Southeast, and its homes show it: new custom homes rising above fresh clearings in Cary, Apex, and Wake Forest, established neighborhoods under tall pines in Raleigh and Durham, and farm properties from Chapel Hill to Hillsborough. Summer thunderstorms fire over the Piedmont almost daily, and every rooftop above the pine canopy is the first target. We protect the whole property: main house, barns, shops, and garages, every building covered.

Lightning Protection in Raleigh-Durham & the Triangle

From Raleigh and Cary through Durham and Chapel Hill to Apex, Wake Forest, and the farm country around Hillsborough and Pittsboro, the Triangle mixes fast new construction with mature neighborhoods and working farms. The exposure is doubled: tall pines stand above most lots, and new custom homes on cleared ground have nothing taller around them. Storms roll east across the Piedmont at full strength all summer, and a strike to a chimney or ridgeline can tear masonry, ignite framing, and send destructive current through every circuit in the house.

WB Lightning Rods protects Triangle properties the way we’ve protected fine homes since 1950: low-profile systems designed around the architecture, heavy conductor cables routed cleanly along rooflines and downspout lines, and grounding sized for Piedmont clay. The whole property is designed into the plan — main house, barns, shops, and garages. Every system is installed by our experienced crew and personally supervised by the owner.

Tall Pines Make the Target List

Most Triangle lots stand under tall loblolly pines, and pines are among the trees lightning finds first. A house roofline rising just above the canopy is right in the strike zone.

New Homes on Fresh Clearings

Cary, Apex, and Wake Forest keep clearing land for custom homes. A new roof on open ground is the tallest structure on its lot — and a system designed in from the start protects it from day one.

Farms Outside the Ring

Hillsborough, Pittsboro, and the Chatham County farm country still run barns, sheds, and silos in open fields. Those buildings are the tallest points for a mile, and they hold animals, feed, and equipment.

What We Protect

One company for the whole property — homes, farmhouses, barns, shops, and garages, anywhere in the Triangle.

Residential Homes

Complete lightning rod systems for houses of every size, designed around your roofline — the work WB has done since 1950.

Custom & Suburban Homes

Low-profile systems for Triangle custom homes and established neighborhoods — from Raleigh’s mature streets to new builds in Cary, Apex, and Wake Forest.

Farmhouses & Historic Homes

Discreet, low-profile systems for older farmhouses and historic homes — clean runs along rooflines and downspout lines, protection you have to look for to see.

Horse Farms & Equestrian Properties

Barns, stables, and arenas protected along with the residence — horses, hay, and tack, all covered.

Barns & Pole Barns

Agricultural buildings, equipment shops, and hay storage — the tallest structures on the farm, and the ones lightning finds first.

Lifetime Protection

We protect all of your buildings — main house, barns, shops, garages, and outbuildings — with a lifetime of protection. Multi-building packages price the whole property together, so protecting everything costs less than protecting buildings one at a time.

Lightning Protection for Trees

Mature oaks, maples, and specimen trees protected with their own terminals and grounding, so a shade tree never becomes the strike path to your roof.

Neighborhood Multi-Home Packages

Neighbors who install together save together — neighborhood discounts on multi-home packages for your street, road, or lake shore.

Inspections & Repairs

Complete installations and repairs — that’s the work. Already have a system? We inspect it, repair storm damage and wear, and bring older installations up to current NFPA 780 standards. We make old systems great again.

New Construction

Building new? We design and install protection while the home or barn is going up — cleaner cable runs, nothing retrofitted after the fact.

A Complete Triangle System

Every WB system is built to NFPA 780 guidelines using UL-listed materials made in the USA — and designed for the Triangle specifically, not copied from a template.

Air Terminals

Placed along rooflines, chimneys, cupolas, barn ridgelines, and dormers — the high points lightning seeks first on Triangle properties.

Conductors

Heavy conductor cables routed cleanly along rooflines and downspout lines, carrying strike energy safely down and away from the structure.

Grounding

Deep-driven ground rods at each structure, sized for Piedmont clay, so strike energy disperses safely into the earth.

Bonding

Metal roofing, gutters, water lines, and electrical services bonded to the protection system, so stray current can’t side-flash between metal parts.

Outbuilding Coverage

Barns, pole barns, equipment shops, guest houses, and garages incorporated into the property plan — no building left exposed.

Whole-Property Packages, From Raleigh to Chapel Hill

A Triangle property is often more than the house. Our multi-building packages price the whole property as one design — main house, barns, shops, garages, and outbuildings, all protected — which costs less than protecting buildings one at a time and leaves no gap between them. Well pumps, pool equipment, gate operators, and shop power all ride the same electrical service, and the design accounts for every one of them.

The same thinking applies street by street. Neighbors on the same road who install together earn neighborhood discounts on multi-home packages, and because WB serves all of North Carolina statewide, a Raleigh home and a second property in the mountains or at the coast are one call, one company. Many quotes are built from satellite imagery, so the process can start with one call.

Raleigh-Durham & Triangle Lightning Protection Questions

Will a lightning protection system change how my house looks?

Very little, when it’s designed properly. We use low-profile terminals and route heavy conductor cables cleanly along rooflines and downspout lines, following the architecture instead of fighting it. Visitors never notice the system until it’s pointed out.

Can lightning damage my home without hitting it directly?

Yes. A strike to a nearby tree, fence line, or the ground itself can send a damaging surge through wiring, well pumps, pool equipment, and electronics. That’s why grounding and bonding matter as much as the terminals on the roof: a properly grounded system gives strike energy a direct, controlled path to earth at the structure itself.

Do you protect barns, shops, and outbuildings too?

Yes — and we recommend it. Every structure on the property is designed into one plan: main house, barns, shops, and garages, each with its own terminals, conductors, and grounding, priced together as a property package.

Do neighbors save if we install together?

Yes. When several homes on the same street or road install in the same trip, everyone shares the travel and setup — and we pass that saving on as a neighborhood discount on multi-home packages. It’s the most affordable way to protect a whole street, and it only takes one organizer to get it started.

What about the tall pines shading our house?

A tall pine close to the house can side-flash a strike into the roof, or send current through its roots toward the foundation. We offer lightning protection for trees themselves — their own terminals and grounding — and we factor nearby trees into every property design.

What does a system cost in the Triangle?

Price depends on roof size and complexity, the number of buildings, and grounding conditions. Property packages price multiple buildings together, which brings the per-building cost down. Estimates are free — many are built from satellite imagery of your property — and every system carries a lifetime warranty on parts and labor.
